Privacy Policy

Who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to JapanEx, published by Kudo Chien. It explains how the JapanEx mobile and web apps access, use, store, and share information.

Information stored on your device

JapanEx stores the following information locally on your device:

• the experience level you select for each of Japan's 47 prefectures;
• your selected app language; and
• an optional display name you enter.

This information is used to display your map, calculate your Japan score, and create result images. Kudo Chien does not receive it through the app. On Android and iOS, it is stored in the app's local database. On the web, it is stored in your browser's local storage.

If device backup is enabled, Android or iOS may include the app's local database in a backup managed by your device or backup provider. JapanEx does not run its own sync or backup service, and Kudo Chien cannot access those device backups through the app.

Device settings

JapanEx reads your device's preferred language to select an initial interface language. This is processed on your device.

Information you choose to share

JapanEx can create a result image or a view-only link when you request it. A view-only link contains your prefecture experience levels, selected language, and optional display name in the URL. Anyone who receives the link can read that information, so do not add a display name you do not want to share.

When you copy, share, save, or open content, your operating system, browser, selected service, and recipients may process that content under their own privacy policies. JapanEx does not maintain an application database of shared result images or view-only link contents.

Website hosting and external links

The JapanEx website and shared view pages are delivered through Expo Application Services. When you visit them, Expo and its infrastructure providers may automatically process standard request and network information, such as your IP address, browser and operating system, requested URL, interactions, errors, and performance information, to provide, secure, and improve the hosting service. This processing is governed by the Expo Privacy Policy.

JapanEx also links to GitHub and Wikimedia Commons for source code, licenses, and attribution. Those services receive standard request information when you choose to open their websites and process it under their own policies.

Data sharing, sale, and advertising

We do not sell or rent personal information. JapanEx does not include third-party ads, analytics, cross-app tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs. Information may be handled by your device backup provider if you enable backups, when you direct the app to share content, when a service provider delivers the website, or when required by law.

Security

JapanEx limits its handling of information by storing app data locally. The public website and shared links use HTTPS encryption in transit. No internet or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and view-only links should be treated as shareable information.

Retention and deletion

Locally stored information remains on your device until you remove it. You can reset prefecture levels with Settings → Reset progress and remove the optional display name by clearing that field. To remove all locally stored JapanEx information, clear the app or website data in your device or browser settings, or uninstall the app. Device backups may retain a copy after local data is removed; manage those backups in your device or backup-provider settings. JapanEx has no user accounts and therefore holds no account data to delete. Information processed by Expo or a service you choose to share with may be retained under that service's policy.

Children's privacy

JapanEx is not directed specifically to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review the request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when JapanEx features or information practices change. We will publish the updated policy at this URL and revise the date at the top of the page.
